RED & GREEN IN THE HOUSE

Habitat for humanity chili festival Saturday August 29th across the street from the Unser Museum on Montano Rd. near Rio Grande Blvd. This popular community gathering kicks off at 9:00am and lasts till 4:00pm offering visitors great entertainment, wonderful arts and crafts, hot chili, delicious food, and an exciting silent auction. General Admission is FREE. Funds raised and donated by the Chili Festival have contributed to the construction of 11 homes. PowerSlyde will rawk the stage @ 2:00pm come meet the band, have fun and help raise money for another Habitat for Humanity home.

June 2018 * The band has been invited to perform for this years NOLA Downtown Music Festival & Cutting Edge Music Conference. The conference & Festival happens this August. 22nd thru the 25th. Bands will be performing at the U.S. Mint and venues in the lower French Quarter , Frenchmen and St Claude Streets Clubs Districts. The Cutting Edge Business Conference is an annual 4-day event that draws together established and aspiring music industry professionals from around the nation and the world.

March 1st 2019 * This year has started with lots of new music creation in the studio. Hit'n the bricks hustling up gigs is always interesting . Learned today that Music of the Sea a hybrid publishing and licensing company may be interested in my music. The band will find out this month if we have a spot on the line up for the Jacksonville Jazz Festival this summer. This month gonna be awesome !

March 17th 2020 * Work in the studio continues on the new EP. Got two tracks closer to final mix down. Working with my new faderport production controller sure does makes the flow smoother. I like using real faders and not the mouse all the time. Plus the faderport expedites tasks with lots of kool short cuts. Considering giving a sneak preview of some tracks once they start sounding decent.

March 28th 2020 * The coronavirus economic outlook that has effected the U.S. hinges on two things. How long does the U.S. have to stay in the coronavirus shutdown mode ? And how pervasive are the restrictions across the U.S. ? In the best case , recovery starts in May. In the worst case , a nationwide coronavirus shutdown extends through June. All perdictions about the coronavirus's economic impact come with a huge margin of error. Economists can't assume that the virus fades away with heat and humidity. Super effective viral meds could be a game changer. If enough people contract the virus and develop immunity , transmission could become harder.

They teach you a lot of nonsense ( the Phillips curve, "wealth effect," efficient markets, comparative advantage ) and then require you to create closed - formed equations with advanced calculus that bear no relationship to the real world. If you want to understand the economy, talk to your neighbors and get out of your bubble. The economy is nothing more than the sum total of all of the complex interactions of the people who make up the economy. June 8th 2020 * On Sunday , The Wall Street Journal published an op-ed by Bob Woodson who argued that hostility towards the police has hurt black people. It's more class than it is race... and now race is being used to deflect attention away from the failures of people and those institutions , "he added. " The question is why are black kids failing in school systems run by their own people ? " When Eric Holder was U.S. Attorney in Washington , D.C. , a lot of young people were shot by the police , but they were black police shooting black kids and not one was prosecuted. But there was no public outcry because as long as illegality or evil wears a black face , then it escapes detection and that's what's wrong with looking life through the prism of race. "In the past 50 years , $22 trillion has been spent on proverty programs. Seventy percent goes not to the poor but to those who serve poor people , "he said. " So many of those people taking office use this money to create a class of people who are running the inner cities , and now after 50 years of liberal Democrats running the inner cities , where we have all of these inequities that we have , race is being used as a ruse , as a means of deflecting attention away from critical questions such as why are poor blacks failing in systems run by their own people ?

June 9th 2020 * The band has been asked to be part of the 28th Annual NOLA Cutting Edge 2020 Music shows. Due to the Covid - 19 pandemic the promoters have been forced to alter the original dates of the shows and plan virtual activities later in the fall. In 2018 the band played New Orlean's French Quarter at a well known jazz club called Sweet Lorraine's. We also played the NOLA Downtown jazz festival that year.

Jan 22nd 2021 * Got the first track"Sweet wit cha" done for the EP.

Very happy with the finnal track mix down and arragement. This track is ready to rawk for mastering. Production and arrangements starts this coming week on the next track titled "Hit'n The Road"

March 13th 2021 * In my musical journey I have yet to take an "official" music lesson , however I have experienced many musical lessons and life lessons working and performing as a musician. I continue to be blessed with this gift of music and this journey we call life. As for me I have forgotten about tradition a long time ago and when I play it is who I am. A great guitarist and composer once told me "you don't want your play'n to sound to schoolboy - ish " An't no schoolboy here ! This is a good read by Michael Lake an awesome altobone player and musician. Here is a portion of that read from his website titled - "IS JAZZ IN DANGER OF BECOMING A CARICATURE OF IT SELF ?"

Transcrption and modeling great improvisations is a wonderful tool for learning the jazz language. Using the tool as a means to feel in your head and hands the masters flow through the changes. Don't use that transcription as the substance of your solo and a lazy replacement for fresh spontaneous jazz composition. Are we overcome by the thrill of technical fluency beyond what we can organically project through our instrument ? And even if one is not chasing after fluency per se , there is that pervasive guilt of not playing up to "the standard" keeping up with the musical Joneses. Nothing wrong with striving for better / more fluent technical chops , but chops are the means to your musical expression , not the end. Perhaps the antidote , just for a moment , is to forget about how you "should " sound , and instead listen to how you DO sound and more importantly , how you want to sound. Where will you find that music within you ? Start by listening to the voice within your musical imagination. I know you've heard it but perhaps it is to often drowned out by the noise of obligatory imitation and blinded by the letters and the dots on the printed page.
